Frank’s April 2012 update

My autobiography, “Fearfully and Wonderfully mad” is published!

Dear Saints and Aints.

Shalom.

The central message of this update is, “My autobiography is published”! It is now available on Amazon.com. It came out in e-book format a few days earlier while the paperback came out on the 12th of April.

My first serious effort to write my autobiography was in 2007. Though the first partial manuscript received a very positive review from an editor associated with Writer’s Guild I failed to follow it up to actually complete the manuscript. This in spite the urging of several friends to get going and get it published. Sue Carlisle offered to edit it for me but I still had only a partial manuscript and didn’t know how to fill in the “gaping gaps”.

Last year I spent the month of June in Thailand-for the sole purpose to finally complete the book. I did! Sue Carlisle worked on the editing.  Judy Nill, whom I know from Bible College days, gave valuable input. When Sue got ill, Roger Stronstad, who to my utter surprise was really enthused about my literary effort, completed the editing and brought the book into the light of the world – leaving the writer intact but removing the German accent from the book; also allotting punctuation marks their proper place and not where I thought they looked better.

The manuscript now complete was sitting on my desk. Apparently nobody wanted it. With the help of a local bookbinder I handcrafted some copies and sent them to some friends. The response was very positive and encouraging yet publishers did not share in that enthusiasm. It might well be that I did not follow the way they expected a query to be.
It became frustrating. The idea of self-publishing did not appeal to me as it would need a lot of money up front and an advertising and distribution system.

I am not sure what brought Amazon.com and CreateSpace that publishes books on demands, to my attention; it must have been God who often encouraged me. Once I saw how comparatively easy it was and that I did not need any money at all to start I was hooked. I only needed money for books I ordered and that money would come from those who ordered a book through Errol and Myrna Desouza who offered to help me with the distribution. (See the advertisement).

I got Ethan, (who will be in Canada till July) involved and he did the hard work that finally put the autobiography up for sale on Amazon’s website. In the process I almost pushed him into an early grave.

Without the many contacts available to big publishing houses; the promotion of the book lies largely in the hands of you my friends and supporters who are spread over various countries across the globe as you show the book and share it with friends; some of you might even have access to Christian bookstores or Christian literature distributers.

I am not ashamed to ask you to be partners with me in this as you have been partners in this ministry for many, many years. Firstly I believe my friends from various walks of life claiming it is a book worth reading and secondly that the income from the book, placed in a special fund, will help Bapu in times of need.  May I count on you?

I am thrilled about it all; it invigorates me. For all I know this is my final dream; the flare-up of a candle ere the wind finally blows it out…

Now again comes the most difficult part of my letter, how to give adequate thanx for who and what you are to us. As you read the book you can smile: “I had my part in this tale.”

Thank you!

Frank
